Structure
Good structure provides the right foundations
Understanding how you want to group information provides your visitors with clarity when they use your site.
How should your site be structured?
To find your way around somewhere it’s good to have a map or a set of directions. Structuring your site well will give your visitors an idea of where to go and how to find information.
Should I base it around my company structure?
It is recommended you structure your site around what service you are providing. Look at what content and functionality you have, then think of simple terms that describe them. Think of what you might look for if you were a visitor to your site.
How many groupings should I have?
Your visitors will want to find what they are looking for quickly. Try to think of how they might find what they want. Visitors do not mind more than three clicks, as long as they feel like they are getting to what they want.
Are there areas I should always provide?
A good rule of thumb is to provide “About Us” and “Contact Us” sections. Try to make these easy to find, as someone will always want them.
